U.S.D.A. LOWERS SOFT
RED WINTER FORECAST
BY 7 MILLION BUS
The U.S.D.A. on June 11 in its
June Crop Production report
lowered its forecast for 2019 soft
red winter wheat production to
258 million bus, down 7 million,
or 2%, from its May projection.
In contrast, the U.S.D.A. raised
its forecast for hard red winter
wheat production to 794 million
bus, up 14 million bus, or 2%,
from its May outlook.

The U.S.D.A. forecast allwinter wheat production at
1.27 billion bus, up less than
1% from the May projection
and up 8% from 2018.

said the King Arthur flour
recall is part of the recall announced in May when Aldi's
product, also sourced from
ADM's Buffalo, N.Y., mill, was
pulled from shelves.

Bayer to explore
glyphosate alternatives
LEVERKUSEN, GERMANY -
Bayer A.G. will invest billions of
dollars in the years ahead to develop alternatives to the weedkiller glyphosate, the company
said June 14. "While glyphosate
will continue to play an important role in agriculture and in
Bayer's portfolio, the company
is committed to offering more
choices for growers and will
invest approximately €5 billion
($5.6 billion) in additional methods to combat weeds over the
next decade," the company said.
The announcement comes a year
after Bayer's acquisition of Monsanto. Since the deal was completed, Bayer has faced more
than 13,000 lawsuits alleging the
herbicide is carcinogenic. The
company said its research and
development investments will
help enhance the understanding
of resistance mechanisms it says
will lead to the discovery and
development of "new modes of
actions" bolstering "tailored integrated weed management solutions" and allowing more precise recommendations through
digital farming tools.

C.P.I. for baked foods
and cereal climbs
WASHINGTON - The Consumer Price Index for baked
foods and cereal products rose
0.4% in May, according to the
Bureau of Labor Statistics of the
U.S. Department of Labor. The
index for all food at home also
increased, rising 0.1%. The May
index for Cereals and Bakery
Products before seasonal adjustment was 277.8% of the 1982-84

average, up 2.1% from a year
ago. For all food at home, the
May index was 242.1, up 1.1%
from May 2018. The C.P.I. for cereals and cereal products in May
was 228.3, down 0.2% from April
but up 0.6% from May 2018.

Retail bread price
moves mixed in May
WASHINGTON - The average
price paid for white pan bread
rose 0.4c per lb in May, while the
price for whole wheat bread fell
1.1c per lb, according to the latest
data from the Bureau of Labor
Statistics of the U.S. Department
of Labor. The national average retail price of white pan bread was
128.9c, up 0.4c per lb from April
but down 0.4c from May 2018.
At 194.1c per lb, the national
average price for whole wheat
bread was down 1.1c per lb from
April and down 2.5c per lb from
May 2018. The national average
price of family flour in May was
45.4c per lb, up 2c from April but
down 1.5c from May 2018.

Rademaker acquires
equipment manufacturer
CULEMBORG, THE NETHERLANDS - Rademaker
Group has acquired Divardy
Engineering, a bakery equipment manufacturer. Financial
terms of the purchase were
not disclosed. Founded in 1999

and based in Nieuwegein, The
Netherlands, Divardy produces systems for depanning,
oven loading and unloading
and automatic topping. "There
aren't that many parties that
can do what Divardy does
internationally," said Jeroen
Van Blokland, owner of Rademaker. "Divardy will focus on
smaller machines such as needle depanners and loaders and
