EXPORTS AHEAD OF YEAR AGO
The U.S.D.A. became current
with its weekly export transactions reports detailing sales
in the past six weeks ended
Feb. 14. The U.S.D.A. indicated
exports and undelivered sales of
all-wheat for 2018-19 during the
six weeks totaled 131.4 million
bus, bringing the crop-year-todate aggregate to 791.6 million
bus, up 2% from a year earlier.

Exports and undelivered
sales of soft red winter
wheat for 2018-19 through
Feb. 14 totaled 102.6
million bus, up 30% from
78.8 million bus a year ago.

meanwhile, improved marginally in both the full year and fourth
quarter. Fiscal 2018 sales totaled
$26,259 million, up from $26,085
million, while fourth-quarter
sales totaled $6,891 million, up
from $6,844 million.

Grupo Bimbo ends
'18 on strong note
MEXICO CITY - While operating earnings fell in 2018 for
the North American business
of Grupo Bimbo S.A.B. de C.V.
from the year before, cost-cutting efforts of recent years paid
off in the fourth quarter with
solid gains in profitability. In
the year ended Dec. 31, 2018,
operating income was 5,100
million pesos ($285 million),
down 34% from 7,701 million
in 2017. Sales were 143,848 million pesos ($7,425 million), up
4.5% from 137,662 million. In
the fourth quarter, operating
income in North America was
2,101 million pesos ($109 million), up 14% from 1,841 million in October-December 2017.
Sales were 38,630 million pesos
($1,987 million), up 6% from
36,295 million. Grupo Bimbo
net majority income in 2018 was
5,808 million pesos ($302 million), up 25% from 4,630 million
in 2017. Net sales were 288,266
million pesos ($14,983 million),
up 8% from 267,515 million.

U.S.D.A. forecasts lower
U.S. wheat supply
WASHINGTON - The U.S.
Department of Agriculture
at its annual Agricultural
Outlook Forum projected the
carryover of U.S. wheat on
June 1, 2020, at 944 million
bus, down 7% from the 2018
forecast of 1,010 million bus.
Wheat production in 2019 was
forecast at 1,902 million bus,
up 1% from 2018, as a slightly
higher average yield and
higher spring wheat plantings
are expected to offset 110-year

low winter wheat seedings.
Total supply was projected at
3,052 million bus, down 2.3%
from the 2018-19 forecast as
lower beginning stocks offset
higher production. Total use
was projected at 2,108 million
bus, down 5 million bus from
2018-19 as lower exports,
projected at 975 million bus,
down 25 million bus from this
year, more than offset higher
food and feed use.

U.S.D.A. projects higher
corn output in 2019
WASHINGTON - The U.S.
Department of Agriculture at
its annual Agricultural Outlook
Forum projected 2019 U.S. corn
production at 14,890 million
bus, up 3.3% from 2018 and
the second highest on record
if realized. Carryover of corn
on Sept. 1, 2020, was forecast at
1,650 million bus, down 4.9%
from the current year. Soybean
production in 2019 was forecast
at 4,175 million bus, down 8%
from record production of 4,544
million bus in 2018. Sept. 1, 2020,
carryover was forecast at 845
million bus, down 7% from 2018.

Scoular hires director
of operational safety
OMAHA, NEB. - Derek Farmer
will join the Scoular Co. as director of operational safety, effective March 4. He will report to
Glen Hofbauer, vice-president of
Scoular. Mr. Farmer most recently was the environmental health
safety and security manager
for engineering firm Arconic in
Washington, Mo. In addition to
his experience at Arconic, Mr.
Farmer held safety-related positions with a number of companies, including Lansing Trade
Group and Cargill, for which he
was responsible for overseeing
the safety of several grain elevator and processing operations.
Mr. Farmer has a bachelor's degree in occupational safety and
health from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. MBN
