Bay State relocates to
larger facility in California
Bay State Milling, Quincy, Mass., has relocated its specialty grain milling facility to a new site in Woodland,
Calif., that has more space than the former facility in
Woodland. The move will allow the company to grow its
Partner Sourced Ingredients program, which develops
partnerships with growers and processors.
Storage, which includes dedicated areas for gluten-free
and organic plant-based ingredients, increased significantly. The larger facility also supports the processing of
SowNaked high-protein oats into flakes and flour due to
the expanded space for milling and blending of specialty
and ancient grains. Cinnamon milling operations have
shifted from a facility in Bolingbrook, Ill., to provide updated processes and improved logistics.
A new clean room is home to Bay State's SimplySafe
heat treatment, which delivers a validated 5-log reduction on relevant pathogens with end-to-end environmental control and monitoring. The program initially was
applied to SowNaked oats and rice flour and will be integrated fully across the company's portfolio of specialty
flours by the end of the year.

ASR Group to supply new
zero-calorie sweetener
ASR Group, which has regional brands such as Domino sugar and C&H sugar in the United States in its portfolio, will
supply and distribute a new sugarcane-derived, zero-calorie
sweetener developed by Amyris, Inc., Emeryville, Calif.,
under an agreement announced Oct. 3. The deal marks the
first major supply and distribution agreement for the new
sweetener, according to Amyris, which manufactures the
sweetener in Brazil. An independent panel has designated
the sweetener as Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS).
"We're looking forward to growing our business by
introducing this new product into our portfolio at a time
when our customers and consumers are looking for calorie reduction without sacrificing their love for the taste of
sugar," said Richard Dyer, chief science and innovation
officer for the ASR Group,
A refiner and marketer of cane sugar, ASR Group has
an annual production capacity of more than 6 million
tons of sugar and produces a line of grocery, industrial,
food service and specialty sweetener products. Besides

Horn to distribute

Horn, an IMCD company based in La Mirada, Calif., will
serve as a specialty distributor in the western United States
for ISC Gums, Edison, N.J., through an agreement between
the two companies.
