The Andersons acquires supplier
and processor of ancient grains
MAUMEE, OHIO - The Andersons, Inc.
has acquired the assets of Naperville, Ill.based Nu-World Foods from Tella Atlantic
Holdings. Nu-World Foods is a supplier
of gluten-free food products and ancient
grain ingredients.
Financial terms of the transaction were
not disclosed.
"This acquisition aligns with our strategy for growing our specialty grains
business," said Andy Vollmar, director

of food ingredients and specialty grains
at The Andersons. "Our Grain Group has
been a trusted partner in the food ingredients industry for many years, and we
are excited to expand our portfolio to
offer more gluten-free and ancient grain
options to our food customers."
Nu-World operates a certified organic,
kosher and gluten-free processing facility
in Dyersville, Iowa. The facility specializes in puffed and popped ancient grains

La Boulangerie buys Loving Cup
retail frozen yogurt company
SAN FRANCISCO - Bakery and cafe
chain La Boulangerie has acquired Loving Cup, a frozen yogurt company based
in San Francisco.
The move will allow La Boulangerie's
partners, including baker Pascal Rigo, to

expand the brand. Loving Cup has grown to
five locations in the area since first opening
in 2008. La Boulangerie said it plans to accelerate the brand's expansion through both
franchising and company-owned stores.

Dieffenbach completes expansion
of Bethel production facility
WOMELSDORF, PA. - Dieffenbach's Potato Chips Inc. has completed the expansion of its new production facility in Bethel,
Pa. The company said it has been working
on the build-out for the past year and a half.
The new 106,000-square-foot facility includes a new distribution center
and additional production lines. The
plant will house the company's directstore-delivery operations, national

distribution for both company and private label brands, and a new manufacturing line that is capable of processing
more than 15 million lbs of potatoes annually.
Dieffenbach said the company will
have the capacity to expand processing to
200 million lbs if needed.

honors Aunt Millie's Bakeries
THOMPSONVILLE, MICH. - Aunt
Millie's Bakeries, based in Fort Wayne,
Ind., has been named recipient of the
2018 Al Kessel Outstanding Achievement Award by the Michigan Retailers
Association.
Aunt Millie's, which operates six baking plants, including four in Michigan,
was honored in the outstanding business
partner category. The award was presented Sept. 23 at the Michigan Grocers' annual Summit at Crystal Mountain Resort
in Thompsonville.
"Aunt Millie's has made significant
contributions to Michigan's grocery industry," said James P. Hallan, president
and chief executive officer of the M.R.A.

The Andersons' purchase of Nu-World
comes 18 months after the company acquired Purity Foods, Inc., an organic and
conventional ancient grains processor in
Hudson, Mich. Purity Foods has 650,000
bus of storage capacity along with two
production lines. The company also has
a cleaning facility that is capable of conditioning and color sorting organic and

Stores located in northwest Michigan. In
addition to supplying thousands of free
buns for the annual Northwestern Michigan College barbecue hosted by Oleson's,
Aunt Millie's was recognized for donations of buns for a fundraiser for breast
cancer research and for an event benefiting the Michigan March of Dimes. The
company also created a School Spirit Program helping schools earn money when
bread is purchased.
Established in 1901, Aunt Millie's
was known as Perfection Bakeries for
most of its history. The company was
renamed in 2005 to align the business
with the name of its flagship brand, first
