Mill undamaged by
Maryland flood
Wilkins-Rogers, Inc. flour mill
in Ellicott City largely escaped
damage from the devastating
floods that struck the town May
27, Thomas A. Rogers, chief
executive officer, said late last
week. "Fortunately, our building
was spared from the flood," he
said. While waters rose to about
a foot high in front of the company's building for a few hours,
no water penetrated the building. A river behind the mill never
crested its banks. Mr. Rogers said
the company's parking lot was
covered by several feet of mud,
and employees spent much of
last week doing cleaning up
work. "Our biggest problem has
been that the local road has been
shut off to truck traffic while they
repair the road," he said. The mill
and packing lines resumed production May 31 and hoped to be
shipping again June 1 or 5.
